At 55 years old, I am known as a disruptor and thought-leader to 1000's of gorgeous women across the globe.

I’m also the author of five books and three "booklets"  that fully explain menopause misery and what's causing It, that doctors will NEVER tell you.

Which is why I created "The Menopause Weight Loss Library".

I'm a certified holistic detoxing health specialist, and a metabolic genius.

What is now a world class consulting empire, with clients in South Africa, Jordan, Canada, & the UK, began as a Facebook group that I created in early 2014 to inspire and empower other women to embrace a med free menopause.

How did I even end up in this unusual consulting career? I got fat, sick, and tired!

Speaker 1:

So the big question is this, how do women over 40 and 50 prevent a miserable menopause lose weight? That seems impossible to lose curb or dissipate. The 34 miserable symptoms that come with it. Get back to sleep. Get our emotions in check and get back to feeling sexy and just freaking normal. Again. Hi, I'm Jenna, miss Sally, and it took me four years and $18,000 to solve this problem. Most women go to the doctor for this, and that's the biggest mistake you can make. You don't want to become medically enslaved and you don't want to waste your time at the gym. Those are the questions, and this is the podcast that will give you the answers. Welcome to the Jianna Maselli, sexy and fabulous show where I talk about everything going on with women over 40. Hey everybody, it's, Jianna Maselli here. And I want to talk today about what I think is one of the most important I want to call it , uh , consequences of the COVID outside of the deaths. Of course, I saw this yesterday and there's never been a better time in your life that you really need to get serious about your health. It's not even to a degree where you could be like, Oh, I'm really okay. Not being that healthy or I'm really okay. Being overweight and really okay. Being pre-diabetic or diabetic what's happening because of the COVID shutdowns is that nationwide hospitals lost $202.6 billion just from March to June due to cancel visits and procedures. And then the healthcare sector lost 1.4 million jobs in just April, including 135,000 hospital workers. And these hospitals are now facing permanent closure. For instance, the Williamson Memorial, which is the only hospital in mango County, West Virginia is one example in that it never treated anyone for COVID, but they shut down every single thing about it because foolishly the powers that be the politicians and the rulers, I like to call them. They just, nothing was based on situational. It was just like across the board for the most part, with the exception of a handful of governors. So the revenue was cut in half and canceled due to non essential procedures when they never even had a COVID crisis. And one of the things I keep talking about on social media as that maybe we had it in the beginning, which I would question those figures as well. But today in July, we do not have the legal definition of an emergency decoration . You have to declare what services would be overwhelmed by what health crisis and those are not showing. And as far as I know, there's been only one fantastic judge in Kentucky, who people brought the governor to court and said they wanted a restraining order against the mass. And the judge asked the governor, you know, to provide your evidence that you need an emergency lockdown. Hundreds of other emergency centers are bracing for similar fates. This lockdown was to flatten the curve and ease hospital overcrowding, but instead over a million healthcare workers have lost their jobs. And it's inevitable that hospitals all across the country will be permanently closed, permanently closed. So was that a good trade off? I don't think so. I think this was the dumbest decision in the history of the world. And so that's even more reason than being afraid of COVID is that even if you're going to have regular crisises, regular chronic conditions, chronic diseases, regular scheduled operations and problems. Now we don't have as much healthcare as we used to. So in the upcoming election, there's a big thing between the Democrats and the Republicans. You know, the Democrats are going for Medicare for all. And what people don't understand is what you're going to get as a little card, a little card that you can laminate and keep in your wallet. There's Oh, you'll think you have healthcare, but when you actually need physical human beings with the type of education and experience needed to deal with you, they're not going to exist. So there's more reason than ever. And I have a guest today, one of my friends for a very long time wanted to address her health and I can't speak for her as to why she didn't, but she finally did. And the results have been amazing. And how long has it been? It's been a month, right? Kristen,

Speaker 2:

It's been a month. I have , uh , I have just started really getting serious about, about my health and myself getting this weight off and getting my health in order. It's

Speaker 1:

What other complaints were there besides your

Speaker 2:

Oh gosh. Um, one of the main things was I was so tired all the time. Of course my weight tired, not sleeping, just not feeling my best, not living my best life. And it had to do with the fact that I've just was not taking care of myself as quickly . Uh, primarily. And I just knew that, you know , it was time and I needed it. It was time. I didn't have enough. I've had enough of feeling that way.

Speaker 1:

Why do you think you delayed it for so long?

Speaker 2:

You know, that is a good question. A good , really, really good question, because you know, you know, you don't feel good, you know, you need to take control, but yet you don't habits, old habits get in the way. Um, I have , uh , I have a issue with , um , comfort, food, comfort, eating, stress, eating that's my go-to. And , um, it doesn't serve me well, but if I go to, so it was really, you know, to be honest, it was really giving that up, you know, having to take control that, look at that and giving that up and knowing that that couldn't be my crutch anymore. It's been my crutch for so many years for decades. It was , it was, it was the , my crotch. So I knew that I needed to, you know , if I was going to do this, I needed to give that up. And it was a , it was a big decision because that that's my comfort. And in changing my life and getting this weight off and making the changes, I knew that I couldn't rely on that anymore. So I, you know, I needed to come to peace with the fact that , um , that had to go

Speaker 1:

Now, I know when I want to comfort eat, which I will. I'm very aware that when I'm desiring something, which is generally Chicago pizza that I know it's a comfort. I know this is really just doing, I'm just doing it to soothe myself. So I will very consciously figure out, do I need this? Can I balance this? But you are doing it every night, right?

Speaker 2:

Oh yes. This split , you know , this went way , way, way deeper than a craving or an occasional, you know, an occasional something. This was, this was my go-to, this was, this was my go-to for , um, for all my emotional needs. And it was, you know, it was way deeper than just wanting something occasionally or having a craving. It was my crutch and I , and I know that. And , um , you know, it didn't, it didn't matter if it was, you know, it could be, you know, it could be pizza, it could be ice cream, it could be, it didn't matter what it was. Didn't matter. It , it really did not matter. It was just the , it was just the act of, of eating something. And so that was something that was a huge , that was a huge hurdle. That was a huge hurdle. I had, I, I had to had to address

Speaker 1:

Turtle in 30 days.

Speaker 2:

I'll be honest, you know, the first, you know, the first couple of weeks it was, it was, it was beyond hard. And I do, and I have made peace with the fact that I know that I am, this is going to be a struggle that I have always, because this is just my makeup. It's, it's, it's, it's part of me that I need to , um, I need to address and I need to replace that with, with other things. So, but , um , the first couple of weeks was really difficult because it's, you know, it's habit. It's just your go-to. So , but I, but I stayed strong. And you , with your support with your program, I stayed strong and your encouragement and your in your daily daily texts, Because it was because I , I, because I needed that, you know, it was in the evening, I had to change. I had to change what I did in the evening from, you know, sitting down and snacking to making a pot of tea and having that , um, doing other things, reading, doing other things I had to get out of my normal, my normal routine. Because if I, if I didn't do that, then I would, I would fall back into my routine. So every day I will say every day, it gets easier and easier because I'm changing and

Speaker 1:

I'm changing to not think that it will be forever because not only are you making just those changes, but you're changing your gut health with the new menu , uh , you're changing these habits, but you also took a huge leap into pursuing something business wise that you wanted to for so long. And you did that this weekend, and now your mind will be occupied with not only setting that up and working with the people you're going to work with. So at night you may have other tasks to do where you're not just that television zone, you know, with a glass of wine and feeding yourself. Like my mother is so funny. She, she works all day. You know, you see her, she's eating. What she thinks is a clean menu and she's been through everything. But then once seven o'clock comes around, she gets in front of that TV with her husband. And it's just a sugar highway between, they've got these drawers in the sunroom where they watch TV, and they're all loaded with candy and chips. And it's just a zone for five hours. And especially those hours heading to bed that it's not good, but you have now done something. I don't know how much you want to share. You just had a fantastic weekend jumping into something you've wanted to do for so long that I'm so proud of you. How are you feeling? Cause I know you're literally off the high of the weekend. Tell us about that.

Speaker 2:

I am, I am, you know, one thing about, you know, one thing about making, when I made the first decision to , to start with my food, it was also, I decided that I was going to focus on myself. You know, it was, it was, you know, starting your program and getting things in order and having goals for myself that having goals for myself in , in personal and in my business, yes, I just , uh, I just went back into launching my business and writing my, you know , got my I written books and I'm relaunching my books and I'm relaunching my , um, my program. And I'm really, really working on me. And it, you know, it really starts with you and it starts with yourself. And once you start making these, making these changes, just like what you just said with, you know, with your mother, with all of the stuff in the room, it becomes such a habit. It's just, and you do that for years until you just decide no more and you start putting yourself first, you , you start deciding that, that you are worth it . You're worth, you're , you're worth that you're worth more than just zoning out. You know, you start participating in your own life, right?

Speaker 1:

I love that. The way you put it now you were on meds and you've been my friend for a long time. You know how I feel about the typical medical doctor ?

Speaker 2:

He doesn't get it about you. That just wants to rest .

Speaker 1:

Now that you're off them. What is your opinion, your share with the audience, what you think about how

Speaker 2:

Doctors just write prescriptions versus

Speaker 1:

What you're doing now, because you got off a lot of stuff.

Speaker 2:

I did, you know, I , I struggled with insomnia for years, for years, I've struggled with insomnia and, and that just goes down a whole host of , uh , problems and , um, depression. And so I was on, yes, I was on antidepressants. I was on , um, a drug for sleep and w it wasn't even prescribed for sleep, but that's what I used. It , that's what they gave it to me for. So not even asleep aid and to put it knocked you out at night, but I was taking them, but I wasn't, I wasn't sleeping. I was, I wasn't getting rest. I wasn't getting, I didn't feel that any of the drugs were doing any good for me at all. And so I went to , I went off them and , um, let me tell you, I it's awful because getting off them, the withdrawals are so terrible. Um, it was just, I know some people need them and if they were helping me, I would've stayed on them. They were not , uh, I went off them. I am off everything right now, and I'm not take off everything swear to God . Cause I know. Yeah , you do. I mean you . Yeah . Yeah. You were there. It's awful. It's , it's just, it's just awful. And um, yeah, they, they didn't help. They, they w we didn't have a conversation, you know, I went in, I can't sleep. I'm depressed. So , um, my doctor, she gave me, okay, here's the prescriptions, but I didn't know what they were. I took the one to fill them and took them. And , um , I, they didn't help me at all at all. So that I made the decision to go off then, because why stay on them if they're not working for a long time, right? Oh, it was on the for years. Oh, yes, yes. I was on them for years. Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

If you think back when you were taking them, but then they weren't working, how does that make you feel?

Speaker 2:

Um, in what way? Well, I think that a lot of women put much ,

Speaker 1:

Much hope into these drugs, and then they're kind of programmed to believe the drugs will work, but then when the drugs don't work, it grates on their self-esteem , that something's even more wrong with them.

Speaker 2:

Yes, exactly. Yes . Just you feeling helpless, you feel helpless, you think, well, gosh, that didn't work. That didn't work. I don't feel any better. So now what, you know , what's , what's the other alternative and then you're on doc

Speaker 1:

Every single night. Like I was,

Speaker 2:

Yes. You're on Dr. Google and Dr. Google and Dr. Google you're on. And you're thinking, well, you know , you just start throwing stuff at the wall and it doesn't, it , it doesn't work. And you know what? We only have this one life and we only, we just have this one life. And I we're in our fifties,

Speaker 1:

Cal like anything, we're not fifties. I'm in my second half. We're in the second half. We're we're in one sense , I don't care. I just don't care. I , I cannot tip toe around and be polite. I'm in my second half that I cannot fill up my life with things that are annoying. That caused me stress. Not that I'm like an elite queen, like, you know, like walk around, like my doesn't stink. But when you're working with this stress, if you're stressed and you're going to end up eating a pint of ice cream every single night, then I've got to get rid of that stress. And if that means that I can't make those cookies for the PTA, sorry, then you can't do it when I really encourage women to start learning the word. No, no is a complete sentence that does not require you to explain yourself. No, I can't do it now . Can't do it.

Speaker 2:

I can't do it. I can't do it. And , um, you know , just putting those boundaries up, setting boundaries and , and, and you can decline you , you, you could decline this . I said , no, thank you. No, I can't. And then move on and, and, and, and then do things for yourself. That's what I was saying earlier. It was, you know, this is, this is, this is so deep that there , this is , this just goes so deep where you just start taking care of yourself and look at things and say, that's not good for me. You know what ? That

Speaker 1:

Not good for me. About three weeks into it. So like a week ago you were saying, cause we were talking every day, we talk every day and you were saying, I haven't lost any weight yet. And I'm like, Kristen, it's only been two weeks. You know, you didn't get overweight overnight. And you know that, but sometimes you just have to talk yourself down in your head, you know , you do. You're very mental . Yeah. You think it's going to go away overnight. But, and so I might just stick with the program, stick with it and keep doing. You're doing so good. Even though you were tempted by your husband , smashed potatoes or baked potato and use the , when you were tempted by some fried mushrooms and then you went to go vote and what happened there?

Speaker 2:

You know, I, it was really exciting because I went to go vote and I saw , uh , uh , gala went to school with, and I haven't seen her in a long time. And she's like, Oh my gosh , I could tell you lost weight and I'm well, thank you. And then that night I went to a party and one of my, one of my close friends said to me, she said, I can really tell you last week, that was two in one day. And I'm like, okay. You know,

Speaker 1:

That felt better

Speaker 2:

Weeks in you . There was three weeks. And then , um, then my husbands , I was walking through the house and my husband said, I could tell you lost weight. So that was like three people in , in, you know , like 24 hours. Like they all it , like all of a sudden you could tell. And like I said, that was, I was only, you know, I was three weeks into the program. So , um, it , you know, I'm like, okay, okay. And I do not get on the scale. I do not own a scale. And I have a scale in the house. It's just how my clothes fit, because I know myself. And if you know other people too , they get on the scale and they , and they, they could have water gain or whatever, and they get discouraged. So I do not have a scale in my house

Speaker 1:

Either. Um, but mentally you were saying like that three weeks that you still felt so big. And I know like, especially if you've lived in a bigger body for a while, there's like, you know, people who say they've had their arms cut off, they still feel their arms, even though it's not there, I know how we can tend to still feel big, which is why I love those . Because using just an item of clothing, I have my ladies , uh , every Friday I send a text message out asking, you know, what's, what's, how's your measure item fitting. And it's really the best way to tell they have to be descriptive. It's tight it zips, but I can't wear it out. Like it's too , I can get it on, but I couldn't wear it out in public or things like that. I've got some ladies, they can't give it over their hips yet. And things like that, it's just so much more tangible. The scale can be so evil. And with the menopause menu you are creating, it's a formula that is creating muscles at the same time that it's getting rid of fat. So it's really just very brilliant. And I am excited as can be. Um, you said in your, you wrote an email to meet your walking every day and moving more, and you bought yourself fresh flowers that you felt guilty buying flowers for yourself. And now you don't because you have decided that you are going to be sexy and fabulous.

Speaker 2:

What was funny is I, you know, I, I, when I got the flowers, I kind of laughed to myself because I was, I was looking at them and I thought, Oh my God , you know, it was 10 bucks, $10. Oh my gosh. But you know what? Yeah . But I didn't think anything of it when I went and got, you know, the Doritos two for five and some depth that

Speaker 1:

I was thinking. Right . Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Right. I didn't feel guilty about that. Isn't that is , it is, it really is. It is such. And I caught myself thinking, Oh, I put them in my cart and I wasn't sure. And then I thought, you know, it was, you know, I was at the grocery store actually . I thought, are you kidding me? I would have, you know, a month ago I would have put like , you know, the Doritos on sale two for five, and then the dip. And I wouldn't have thought a thing of it. I'd put it in the cart. I'd have paid for it. Went away . I would've gone home and eaten it. But , but those flowers, for some reason I felt guilty. I felt, Oh, geez, it's just amazing. Of course, on this trip, I didn't buy the chips and dip. And I didn't, I didn't spend any money on that. I bought the flowers, but it really is a mindset. It's a mindset. It's a shift. It's a mindset. It's a shift. It's a shift that you're worth it.

Speaker 1:

Exactly. When you put a value on everything. Like even when I eat out now, I think about, did I get value out of that? Or could, I've gotten so much value out of purchasing my own food and cooking it at home. Something that's so much better. Everything's like related like that. So one last question. Did you, you wrote in the email, I didn't realize how much I needed to detox from all the damage. How was your detox?

Speaker 2:

Detox was rough. How long tax was rough? Uh, w Oh , it was rough. The first week was really rough. I mean, you know, you really do feel sick. You really do feel physically

Speaker 1:

The audience. Let me just clarify. There's not , um , special thing that we're doing. There's not detox tea or animals or anything like that. But when you change your menu immediately, especially if you know, you're eating ice cream and Doritos and dip, you are in what I call the pleasure, trap, salt, oil, sugar, chemicals, fake sugars, the chemical, and all this is now coming out of your body. It enables your liver to work better. Your liver is the place that you're going to be getting rid of your, your menopause hormones as your body's trying to get rid of them. As you go through the menopause, the transition, if it's, can't get through the liver, they'll recycle through your body. So I like to focus on what I call the under your hood. That's your thyroid, your hormones, your digestion , um, your brain health , um, just help all the processes, get your body working. And that needs fuel. So in this program, have you starved any days, Kristen ?

Speaker 2:

No. No, not at all. And no, no, no, not at all. And it was you're right though. I wasn't eating the processed foods. Yes. No. Oh no. And I'm drinking, you know, and only drinking water and tea. Um, I switched my coffee from coffee. I know when I do drink coffee, it's decaf because you explained to me the, you know, the , um , how caffeine affects you. So I got rid of that.

Speaker 1:

[inaudible] yep . Yes .

Speaker 2:

If I drink more tea and water and I just, and now I'm a month, I'm almost a month in and I feel fantastic. And it is, it is, it does . It gets easier every day. It gets easier every day .

Speaker 1:

That's amazing . Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
